On November 24, 2009, at the SAP UK and Ireland User Group conference, Ray Wang provided his views on SAP innovation.  Ray is a leading analyst on SAP and provided his no holds barred views to the audience.

Ray recapped his keynote with the following tweets:

  1. To recap the keynote: 1. There’s a tonne of innovation at #SAP. Management and politics keep it from coming out. #suguki09 (via @rwang0)
13:43 PM Nov 25th from Tweetie
  2. 2. Customers need to tap into it and help #SAP prioritize. You need to know what you want to do. #suguki09 #erp (via @rwang0)
13:44 PM Nov 25th from Tweetie
  3. 3. Use the user group to do this in a better more productive approach. especially if you are not a top 400 customer #suguki09 (via @rwang0)
13:45 PM Nov 25th from Tweetie
  4. 4. #SAP isn’t bad or good. You can’t view them that way. Figure out what you need from them early and fast. #erp #suguki09 (via @rwang0)
13:45 PM Nov 25th from Tweetie
  5. 5. If #SAP can’t do it, you don’t have time to wait for them, especially if there’s no commitment. #erp #suguki09 (via @rwang0)
13:46 PM Nov 25th from Tweetie
  6. 6. The pace of change is too fast. Technology adoption too slow. Companies need to keep moving in innovation #sap #suguki09 (via @rwang0)
13:46 PM Nov 25th from Tweetie
  7. 7. Invest in innovation even if it hurts. Find money to optimize and pay for this. #sap #erp #suguki09 (via @rwang0)
13:47 PM Nov 25th from Tweetie

Later in the day, mycustomer.com blogged a great summary of Ray Wang’s view that SAP does a horrible job communicating their innovation to their client base.  This is a prime example for the need to socially engage your passionate user base in defining and distributing product value.  My thanks to @jowyang for tweeting about this presentation followup.

  1. @rwang0 Was very candid at the SAP user conference, telling it how it was, read http://bit.ly/6meT3X (via @jowyang)

On November 24, 2009, Knowledge Workers Toronto held their monthly meetup at the Groundhog Pub.  I had originally planned on attending this meetup, but my plans changed at the last minute.  Thankfully, meetup organizer Connie Crosby tweeted throughout Michael Cheveldave’s presentation.  Michael is the Director, Business Development for Cognitive Edge Pte. Ltd.  He outlined how the human side of knowledge management makes sense of the world.

Enclosed are the relevant tweets from @conniecrosby as well as post presentation clarifications by @mcheveldave.

The following is a great analogy of what was being discussed, using a children’s birthday party as a framework.
